The Problem with Refined Oils
Most cooking oils sold in India go through a process called refining — involving high heat (200°C+), chemical solvents like hexane, bleaching agents, and deodorizers. By the time the oil reaches your kitchen, most of its natural vitamins, antioxidants, and flavour have been destroyed.
Cold-pressed oils are different. And here's why they matter for your health.
What is Cold-Pressed Oil?
Cold-pressed oils are extracted by mechanically pressing seeds or nuts at low temperatures (below 60°C), without any chemicals or heat treatment. This preserves the oil's natural nutrients, colour, aroma, and flavour exactly as nature intended.
At Divyorganic, we use traditional wooden pressing (Kachi Ghani) for our mustard oil and cold-press extraction for our almond, coconut, walnut, groundnut, and castor oils.
5 Key Benefits of Cold-Pressed Oils
1. 🌿 Rich in Natural Nutrients
Cold-pressed oils retain their natural Vitamin E, Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and phytosterols — all of which are destroyed during refining. These nutrients protect your cells, reduce inflammation, and support heart health.
2. 🔥 No Harmful Chemicals
Refined oils use chemical solvents like hexane for extraction. Cold-pressed oils use only mechanical pressure — no chemicals, no residues, no hidden toxins in your food.
3. 💚 Better for Heart Health
Cold-pressed oils have a better balance of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids. This ratio is critical for reducing inflammation and supporting cardiovascular health. Refined oils, especially refined sunflower and soybean oil, are heavily skewed towards Omega-6, which promotes inflammation when consumed in excess.
4. 🍫 Authentic Flavour & Aroma
Ever noticed how cold-pressed mustard oil has that sharp, pungent kick? Or how cold-pressed coconut oil smells like fresh coconut? That's because the natural volatile compounds are preserved. Refined oils are odourless and flavourless by design — a sign that everything natural has been removed.
5. 💆 Versatile — Cooking, Skin & Hair
Cold-pressed oils are multi-purpose. Cold-pressed coconut oil, almond oil, and castor oil are excellent for skin moisturising, hair growth, and scalp health — in addition to cooking. Refined oils offer none of these benefits.
